When we pray for peace,
- give us your wisdom to help resolve the problem.
When we pray for self-comfort,
- give us your strength to endure & change.
When we pray to you Almighty Father,
- give us ears to hear and grace to accept your answer.
And when we hear your answer Lord,
- give us strength to do your bidding.
AMEN
And this one?
When we care for someone, their mood affects us.
If they are happy,
We are often happy with them
When they are happy we are thankful -
and want to share their emotion with them.
And when they are sad,
We can be sad too.
When they are sad, we want to share their burden, comfort them, help get them back from sad to happy.
Our emotions join theirs.

Over simplistic maybe, but you get the idea.
One gift I value is prayer.
We are instructed to pray without ceasing with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray

When we don't know what to pray, the Holy Spirit takes the 'Groaning'of our heart and translates them into prayer worthy of listening to by God.
I recently thought of prayer as a grubby offering to God. Our words, thoughts and feelings not worthy. The Holy spirit takes the grubby offering and makes it pure.
When I pray I get hung up on words. Often I cannot express what I feel in my heart.
I also have a useless memory. Many of us have promised to pray for someone - and forgotten!
To recap:
Shared emotions
Pray without ceasing
Pray with the help of the Holy Spirit
Hung up on words
Useless memory
What I say now is not a be all and end all,
but is a way of praying I find helps.
I used to worry about praying without ceasing!
I was praying in the car one day. To the shock of other motorists I got so carried away I lifted my hands from the steering wheel up to God.
Ever had that sinking feeling in your heart at bad news? And sometimes you audibly sigh and groan.
I take ages to find words, I analyze my prayers and see how useless they are, badly structured and often meaningless.
But I know the emotion in my heart's right. When I am really sad about something I pray for, my heart groans the feeling - that has become my prayer. And happiness in my heart become prayer and praise.
So, instead of saying I would pray - and forget, I offer my hearts feelings to God as I go through the day.
I used to write a list as I read a newspaper, now I pray as I read, sometimes in words, and sometimes in emotion.
Offering these sorts of prayers doesn't just happen in the background, I have to consciously direct my thoughts and emotions to God.
I think Prayer is an ATTITUDE, humbling, powerful. You cannot pray when you are proud or jealous, when you are purposefully sinning. But when your heart is aching to be made right with God again, this opens up the channels of prayer.
One day when I was a bus driver I was stopped at a junction. Opposite me, waiting for the lights to change was another bus. The driver had decided to cheer up his passengers by wearing a bright red Santa Hat.
He was sat, chin in palm, looking very bored. He was trying to look jolly - his attitude told a very different story!
